The catalyst came one day when she was driving to work. Bex realised that she needed to make a change because she couldnât work and live if she couldn t be around people. She requested weight loss surgery which was refused so she was then referred to therapy. It quickly became apparent that the issues of childhood abuse, food addiction, fear and anxiety all needed to be addressed before surgery could be considered. Bexâs journey to self-acceptance began there.
In 2013 Bex started a vlog channel on YouTube called âBeing an SSBBWâ. In it she speaks frankly about all aspects of life as a person of extended size, her struggles and triumphs. Now based in Chicago, she uses her platform to reach out to plus size people (and those not dealing with weight issues) to help navigate the path of mental health, self-love and self-acceptance, dating, sex and relationships.
Bex always refers back to something her therapist told her. âWhat other people think about you is not your business. If they tell you what they think about you itâs still not your business. Itâs up to you to decide if you want to accept their ideas or to adapt their ideology about you. Itâs all within your powerâ.
